Caring for Your High Carbon Steel Knife

Most Stelter Manufacturing Co. knives are crafted from high carbon steel—chosen for its exceptional performance and edge retention. While this material can corrode if not properly maintained, keeping it in great shape is simple with a few easy habits.

We recommend wiping down the blade with a dry towel after use, avoiding prolonged contact with water, and applying a light coat of food-safe oil before storage. Over time, your blade will naturally develop a patina—an organic layer of color and texture that not only adds character but also helps protect against corrosion.

To maintain the edge, regularly strop the knife on leather or use a ceramic honing rod. For longevity, we suggest using your knife on soft wooden cutting boards instead of plastic or synthetic surfaces. And most importantly—never put your knife in the dishwasher. High heat, pressure, steam, and abrasive detergents can severely damage both the blade and handle.

If your blade ever gets dull, simply send it in—we’ll restore it and ship it back, good as new. We charge a flat 50 dollar sharpening fee, plus shipping. Send your blade to:
